Happy Monday! I hope you had a beautiful and blessed weekend!
Sometimes, no matter what we wear, how much makeup we put on, nice clothes, weight we lose, creams, etc., it just seems like NOTHING is ever good enough. Like, we are just NOT. GOOD ENOUGH. Not beautiful enough. I have struggled with self- acceptance when it comes to my physical appearance a lot during my life. It is very easy to OBSESS over your physical appearance, and feel as if you’re not good enough if you don’t fit a standard set by society. If you let it, it is can be easy to feel like you’re not even worthy of love because you haven’t met the standards. And we all know, this is a lie from the enemy! But sadly nowadays, there are a lot of people walking around, feeling down, depressed, and like they’re less- than because they measure themselves up against these standards.
But I am not perfect, and I am not expected to be, PHYSICALLY speaking. This is unnecessary pressure we have put on ourselves because we have let the world infiltrate and influence our thoughts and heart. Nobody is perfect, and the sooner we realize this, trust me, the happier we will be! Lol. At least this has been my experience. The world may want you to LOOK “perfect,” according to its standards of beauty, but we don’t go by the world. What does our Heavenly Father think? The only opinion we should be truly concerned about is God’s, and He wants us to develop perfection of another kind. Outward appearance is NOT what God is looking at. Although when someone is transformed by God, their outward appearance will change. They will dress differently, according to what the Bible says, and some people even say people who have a real transformation even become more beautiful! Not to sound conceited lol, but I feel like I am more beautiful now than when I was in the world. Something about the process just gives you an inner glow! Lol. Or maybe I just FEEL more beautiful and have actually developed that self- love, seeing myself through the eyes of Christ.
But anywho, God doesn’t look at the outside. The way we dress, etc. But He is the only one who can see our HEART. Our soul. Our thoughts, our intentions! WOW. We just need to make sure those are in order with the One who created us and knows our heart like nobody else does!
So what is perfection according to God? What are His standards so that we are approved by God?
James 1:4 (ESV) says: And let steadfastness have its full effect, that you may be perfect and complete, lacking in nothing.
The word “perfect” in this verse of the Bible means, “mature.” God wants us to grow in Him. It is God’s will for us that we continue to grow in Him and not remain in the same place spiritually, year after year. There must be PROGRESS. Our walk with Him must deepen, He does not want us to remain stagnant in our faith. We cannot be baby, worldly Christians our entire lives. God wants to see growth! He wants us to be increasingly closer to Him. The more we grow in Christ, the stronger we will be as an individual, and as the body of Christ because we become more effective in His Kingdom. And that is the point. To advance God’s Kingdom here on earth and give God the glory! Each of us has a task here on earth to do. God has placed a purpose within each of us, but if we don’t grow in Him, we will not be able to reach it!
God also wants to see OBEDIENCE and SUBMISSION to His will. No matter where you are in your walk with the Lord, you need to obey His word, and put it into practice in your daily life. It is not just a Sunday thing. It is an everyday, every minute, every second kind of thing. Not just hear a sermon and not apply it to your life. But be a DOER of the word. Which means, APPLYING the word of God to EVERY area of your life. Putting it into practice! And of course, in order to do this, we have to humble ourselves before Him, and SUBMIT to His will.
Do not merely listen to the word, and so deceive yourselves. Do what it says. — James 1:22 NIV
This leads to my next point, that we must RELY on God because He is our strength. Nobody is strong in their own strength. As Christians we depend on God! Trust in Him more and more each and every day. ASK for the Holy Spirit every day to help you. Because we really, cannot rely on ourselves, and we CANNOT do this alone. We simply can’t. We will not be able to do the things God is asking us to do on our own strength. We will not be able to reach the new levels and will not be able to go where God is calling us to go! It is impossible. Only with God, we can overcome. So we must trust in Him, and abide in Him. Unless we do this, we will not see progress.
“Blind Pharisee! First clean the inside of the cup and dish, and then the outside also will be clean.” Matthew 23:26 NIV
We have to be cleansed from the inside out, become PURE from the INSIDE. It’s not the other way around!!!! We can’t try to fix the outside, focus on our looks, when the inside is still sinful, unrepentant, lost, and broken. It is completely pointless to do that. It’s like treating the symptoms, but not the disease. You must start from the INSIDE, and then, it will reflect outward.
And nobody is COMPLETELY pure, of course, it’s a process and it’s different for everyone! Sanctification is an ongoing thing for every Christian. We all must just have FAITH. The Bible says in that without faith, it is impossible to please God.
And without faith it is impossible to please God, because anyone who comes to him must believe that he exists and that he rewards those who earnestly seek him.
So how we develop our faith? In the Bible it says that faith comes from hearing the word of God. So by learning about Him through sermons, reading His Word, praying continually and asking the Holy Spirit to change you and remove anything that doesn’t please God, asking God for forgiveness of your sins continually, you will begin to see major changes and will see that progress!
Whoever conceals his transgressions will not prosper, but he who confesses and forsakes them will obtain mercy. — Proverbs 28:13
God already loves us, He created us! But there are certain things we do need to do in order to “fit in” with God’s standards of perfection. That is the only one that matters. Not the world’s/ enemy’s made up standards, but God’s standards. That is our guide. God is perfect, holy, and good! He loves us but he does not accept sin. When we submit to His will, and let Him cleanse us and work in us internally, we will see ourselves grow in Him more and more, and He will give us the strength to do the things we really never thought we were capable of doing!
But those who trust in the LORD will find new strength. They will soar high on wings like eagles. They will run and not grow weary. They will walk and not faint.
— Isaiah 40:31
Be perfect, therefore, as your heavenly Father is perfect.
— Matthew 5:48 NIV
