My all- time favorite woman of the Bible: RAHAB πβ€ Rahab is mentioned in Hebrews 11 as one of the “heroes of faith”, she is definitely someone we can learn from. The full story can be found in Joshua 2-6. π
Rahab’s story has incredible lessons:
1. We should never, EVER underestimate God’s redemptive power. Rahab went from being a prostitute in Jericho, to saving her entire family, marrying an Isrealite from the tribe of Judah, & being in the lineage of Jesus!
2. We need to ACT in FAITH. She’s mentioned yet again as an example in James 2:24-26, as someone who exemplifies acting in faith:
“24 As you can see, a man is justified by his deeds and not by faith alone.
25 In the same way, was not even Rahab the prostitute justified by her actions when she welcomed the spies and sent them off on another route? 26 As the body without the spirit is dead, so faith without deeds is dead.”
3. God LOVES & is VERY INTERESTED in those whom society overlooks & deems as worthless & hopeless!
4. God can redeem us even if we have been broken by negative & even traumatic life experiences. We just need to put our faith in Him & act accordingly! Rahab was made NEW & even had a son, who was BOAZ! YES, THE Boaz, who we Christian women to this day, look as an example of what a Godly husband should be! This woman who was probably deemed as so hopeless, was used for God’s glory!
β‘ Joshua 6:22-25 β‘
22 Meanwhile, Joshua told the two men who had spied out the land, βGo into the house of the prostitute and bring out the woman and all who are with her, just as you promised her.β
23 So the young spies went in and brought out Rahab, her father and mother and brothers, and all who belonged to her. They brought out her whole family and settled them outside the camp of Israel.
24 Then the Israelites burned up the city and everything in it. However, they put the silver and gold and articles of bronze and iron into the treasury of the LORDβs house.
25 And Joshua spared Rahab the prostitute, with her fatherβs household and all who belonged to her, because she hid the men Joshua had sent to spy out Jericho. So she has lived among the Israelites to this day.
